Sustainable Dining @ BMC:

Here at BMC, we are committed to provide the community with a “GREENER” life style. Bryn Mawr College Dining Services is committed to providing the most environmentally friendly dining program possible and one that supports the BMC Community.

Currently BMCDS offers local fruits seasonally, we are working to increase the proportion of local foods available in the Dining Halls.

Seasonal sustainability dinners occur usually twice a year, providing students with a completely sustainable meal.

Highland ORchards Fair Food with White Dog Foundation
Highland Orchards Farm and Market offers fresh produce from neighbor farms in Chester and Lancaster counties.
Fair Food fosters connections between family farmers and an ever-growing network of chefs, caterers and grocers and other food providing services including Bryn Mawr College.

Recently, the Uncommon Grounds cafe has acquired a contract with SUSHI DO, a sustainable delivery sushi company, and will have fresh sushi readily available every Mon, Wed. and Fri.
Sushi Do is committed to producing healthy and fresh productions using environmentally sustainable ingredients.
Sustainable Food Organizations:

USDA Organic USDA Organic: The United States Department of Agriculture’s National Organic Program regulates the standards for any farm, wild crop harvesting or handling operation that wants to sell an agricultural product as organically produced. Here is the National List as Amended (eCFR) is established by the Secretary of Agriculture by the Organic Foods Production Act 1990.

Seafood WatchSeafood Watch:A program designed by the Monterey Bay Aquarium to raise consumer awareness about the importance of buying seafood from sustainable sources. They recommend which seafood to buy or avoid, helping consumers to become advocates for environmentally friendly seafood.

The Rainforest AllianceThe Rainforest Alliance works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Companies, cooperatives and landowners that participate in the programs meet rigorous standards that conserve biodiversity and provide sustainable livelihoods.

Food Alliance Food Alliance is a nonprofit organization that promotes sustainable agriculture by recognizing and rewarding farmers who produce food in environmentally friendly and socially responsible ways. In addition, the organization prides itself on educating consumers and others in the food system about the benefits of sustainable agriculture.

Fair Trade Certified The Fair Trade Certified™ label guarantees consumers that strict economic, social and environmental criteria were met in the production and trade of an agricultural product. Fair Trade Certification is currently available in the U.S. for coffee, tea and herbs, cocoa and chocolate, fresh fruit, flowers, sugar, rice, and vanilla.

Local Food:

Maysie’s Farm Conservation Center:

A nonprofit educational organization dedicated to increasing public understanding of the importance of conservation and ecological thinking. The Maysie’s Farm family works with individuals, families, communities and educational institutions to encourage ecological living by demonstrating and advocating organic agriculture, farmland preservation and Community Supported Agriculture and by offering unique educational programs. Maysie’s Farm is developing a community within Chester County that is based on a local, sustainably produced food supply and a commitment to ecological living.

White Dog Cafe:

A local favorite known for its unusual blend of award-winning contemporary American cuisine, civic engagement and environmental sustainability. They use only the finest ingredients from farms that pasture feed livestock and practice sustainable farming methods. All of the seafood comes from sustainable sources while their wine list includes quality varietals from American vineyards. Mission- serving our customers, serving our community, serving the earth, and serving each other – continues to resonate with our guests.
